To place beneficial knowledge within the reach of the underprivileged and to nurture upright character, through charitable schools, scholarships for the promising and the needy, mosques and Islamic centres, da'awah, and empowerment programmes that restore dignity and transform lives.
A brief history
The Zam-Zam Educational Initiative was formally incorporated in August 2020 (CAC/IT/NO 150771). Its work, however, long predates its registration: for over thirty years these programmes have grown alongside the da'awah journey of Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, a distinguished Islamic scholar in Kano. They were brought under one institution so that they might be sustained, expanded, and placed on an enduring footing.
Today the Initiative oversees charitable schools, together with mosques and Islamic centres, some built by the Initiative itself, others entrusted to it to govern and manage. It also sustains a calendar of annual charitable programmes, among them the Ramadan iftar and the distribution of Ramadan family packages to needy households each year.
Among its most notable undertakings is the Female Scholarship Programme, which awards full university scholarships to underprivileged and orphaned young women, many of them Huffaz of the Holy Qur'an — to study Nursing, Medicine, and other health sciences. The Programme meets tuition and all mandatory academic fees, accommodation, and a living stipend for the entire duration of study, so that each scholar may learn without distraction.
Flagship programme
Female Scholarship Programme
Full university scholarships for underprivileged and orphaned young women — many of them Huffaz of the Holy Qur'an — to study Nursing, Medicine, and other health sciences. The Programme covers tuition and all mandatory academic fees, accommodation, and a monthly living stipend for the entire duration of study. An ND route, through partner online universities, extends the Programme to National Diploma holders — especially married women — who study B.NSc. Nursing Science from home with in-person examinations; for these scholars the Initiative covers fees and provides a tablet and a monthly data allowance.
